A US-based client, who is a reveler, amid the unprecedented situation of lockdown thought of an idea to build a virtual party club that can be digitally experienced via an app. With a desire to give an extraordinary experience to the masses & to let them come out of the state of boredom, the client approached NetSet Software to transform his idea & turn it into a Virtual Reality.

The Client’s determination to forge a user-centric innovation and NetSet’s capabilities to harness the untapped potential of VR came up with a solution (VRClub) that augments the nightclub experience, draws on the theme of enjoying a party with friends & encourages multiple users to engage and connect.

The Challenges

The VR concept is a different one when compared to conventional app development. The idea of immersing a user into the virtual world, isolated from the natural reality must do justice with user experience in the context of:

Controls
Latency
Design
Optimization
Platform fragmentation

While our VR developers, carrying extensive years of expertise, were able to overcome hurdles of user action and app response (latency), avatars and theme designing, platform fragmentation, the major challenge that was given the utmost priority was to handle motion sickness while using the application in any of the entertainment modes.

“No VR application can become successful if it fails to void motion sickness among users while using the app.”

Next, the locomotory movement of the avatars emerged as the next potential problem that took high concerns, as latency of controls, their ergonomics, and abilities have a great roleplay in user interaction with virtuality.

Furthermore, the client wanted to provide the user access to the art gallery images, the club music, and videos by enabling him to upload such media as per his preferences and desires with seamless integration.

Lastly, the NetSet team was given a challenging task to add 3D Positional Voice in case of playing music and voice chat that was unique and compelling as an app feature and carried high importance. This app feature was exceptional and one of its kind that consumed time and efforts and required guided intelligence to make the inclusion possible.

The Outcome

The app when built was able to analyze and process the user’s actions in the real world and translate them into interactions with the system’s virtual objects in various pre-programmed ways.

Keeping the VR Entertainment in mind, emphasis was laid on responsiveness, intuitiveness, and interaction of the app with users while giving them an illusion of a different world while sitting in the real world.

Along with the fidelity of representation, interactions among participants (users sharing the room and connecting) were made feasibly smooth and rapidly responsive. Our aim to create a virtual niterie with avatar movements and performing basic activities, was a success that ensured a smooth and comprehendible virtual experience of a club in virtual reality.

The VRClub application concluded with the following features and traits:

The VRClub app initiates with a user login and creates a room of your own. The user is also given an option to directly join a by-default room.
From the start, it gives an amazing 360-degree view of the disco with appropriate lighting and music

The 3D Positional Voice feature of the application enables users to listen to music and the connected user’s voice in three dimensional, demonstrating the real life-scenario of listening to music and speaking to people as that of in a club in real-time. (atypical app feature) (Say, two users of the same room sitting in the same cocktail section can hear the voice (low & high) of another two users depending upon their proximity distance with the duo. Likewise, a user would be able to listen to music with changing volume frequency as he moves near to or far away from the disco area)
Overall the app consists of two mini pubs, one major hall, one art gallery, a cocktail section, and a separate user lounge, thus, giving a realistic view of a sophisticated club.
The art gallery has static and dynamic by default images with an additional option of adding /images/gifs by the end of the user. (atypical app feature)
The app possesses two avatar characters, male and female with up to 22 styles of customizing their look and personality.
The app offers multiple users to connect with each other by sharing an identifiable room code that is unique where there is no limit to creating rooms. (maximum 10 players can join in a room)
The connected users are distinguished by their name and a popup speaker (when they speak) once they have joined a specific room.
The app effortlessly embeds a user-preferred music library and photo gallery that can be played and displayed respectively with no disruption or hindrances. (atypical app feature)
The images, theme, and avatars appear life-sized to the user and entertainment seems realistic and enjoyable.
