The Problem

Basketball players mostly struggle to access professional grade coaching without expensive in-person training as traditional video analysis is slow, subjective, and inconsistent, leaving athletes without reliable feedback on their technique. At the same time, digital training apps lacked engagement which is why players would lose motivation without gamification or competition.
QBounce wanted to solve this gap with an AI solution that could deliver fast, objective skill assessments, structured training programs, and a fun competitive environment. For this, our team has to design a scalable mobile ecosystem that could handle video uploads in high volume, has AI analysis in real time, and engages users on a global level.

The Challenges

To deliver professional-grade basketball training through a mobile app, we had to combine AI-powered video analysis with gamified features while making sure about scalability. Players wanted fast, objective feedback, engaging training programs, and a competitive environment, all without the cost or limitations of traditional in-person coaching.

Objective Analysis:

Traditional video analysis is slow, subjective, and inconsistent where players receive conflicting feedback on shooting form or technique so QBounce needed a way to provide fast, accurate, and consistent assessments using AI. This would let every player access professional level insights directly from their smartphone without relying on expensive coaching sessions.

Engagement and Retention:

Training apps often struggle to keep users motivated so without gamification or competition, players lose interest quickly. QBounce needed features that would make practice fun, rewarding, and competitive. The challenge was to design XP points, achievements, and leaderboards that motivated engagement for a long time and kept athletes consistent in improving their skills.

Scalability:

Handling high-volume video uploads and AI processing is resource-intensive so QBounce wanted an architecture that could scale globally and support thousands of users uploading HD videos at the same time. The challenge was to deliver smooth performance, reliable storage, and fast analysis while keeping cost low and future growth handy for as user demand grows.

Structured Training:

Players at different skill levels wanted custom training but without clear progression, beginners feel lost and advanced players lack challenges. QBounce wanted structured programs labelled into levels like Beginner, Advanced, Pro, and Master to guide athletes step by step for continuous improvement and a clear path to mastery.

Matches and Stats:

Other than practice, players wanted to track real game performance but traditional apps again don’t have features to record points, rebounds, and assists. QBounce needed a simple way for users to log match data, integrate it with training insights, and use statistics to measure progress both in practice and competitive play.

AI-Powered Video Analysis

We applied the Google Gemini API with FastAPI (Python) to deliver fast, objective skill assessments. Here players upload practice videos, and the system analyzes shooting form, accuracy, and technique, for consistent, professional-grade feedback directly on their mobile devices.

Gamification and Retention

We designed an XP system that rewards players for completing training videos, achievements, milestones, and leaderboards. This keeps athletes motivated to practice into a competitive, fun experience that drives long term engagement and consistent skill development.

Scalable Infrastructure

We built the backend with Laravel on AWS EC2 and used AWS S3 for video storage. This architecture made sure smooth performance, reliable processing of HD video uploads, and scalability to support thousands of users globally without compromising speed or stability.

Structured Training Programs

We created training courses labelled into Beginner, Advanced, Pro, and Master levels which structured progression guides players step by step, giving custom development for all skill levels and providing a clear path to mastery.

Match and Stats Management

We implemented a simple CRUD system for tracking match statistics like points, rebounds, and assists. This feature allows players to log real game data, integrate it with training insights, and measure progress both in practice and competitive play.
